BoardX wint internationale Green Award van Surfers Path!

The Surfers Path is een van de bekendste surfmagazines ter wereld. Ze bekijken de surfwereld door een traditionele, humanitaire en ecologische bril. Voor het eerst werden dit jaar de Green Wave Awards uitgereikt aan organisaties, merken, surfers,... van over de hele wereld, die diezelfde aspecten meedragen in hun werking. Enkele maanden geleden wist BoardX al dat ze werden genomineerd voor de finale in de categorie ‘surftravel’, maar sinds de nieuwe Surfers Path uit is, blijkt dat ze zelfs gewonnen hebben.



BoardX:"Belgie staat nergens op de wereld surfkaart. Het spreekt voor zich dat we enorm trots zijn met deze internationale erkenning! Big Up voor iedereen die ons gesteund heeft en zijn 1% earth tax heeft betaald. We hebben trouwens net de kaap van €5000 overschreden."



Surf Travel Companies

It’s hard to be green in this scene and while we have heard about ‘eco-surf camps’ in some parts of the world, none were nominated this year. We quite liked Errant Surf’s Grom Exchange programme but couldn’t see that, by giving some of the UK’s top young surfers a free trip to one of their destinations, they were really qualifying for a green award.



BoardX, a surf travel company in Belgium that caters for windsurfers and kiters as well, was nominated on the basis that, being an internet-based company, they use no paper for letters, or envelopes, or paper invoices. They also say they only use Terra Wax (surfboard wax made from natural products) in their surf camps. But when we noticed that they are imposing an “Earth Tax” on themselves, and saw that they had already given over €2,000 in 2005 to the Mentawai Islands health charity Surf Aid, we decided they deserved some recognition for their efforts.

There won't be a huge Oscars-type ceremony and I'm afraid we can't offer you a million pounds or a free trip to the Mentawais, but we will be able to give you a large, framed Green Wave print which was done for us by legendary surf artist Rick Rietveld.
