Vanavond op televisie: Age of Stupid

Op 21 september ging de film The Age of Stupid wereldwijd in meer dan 50 landen op hetzelfde tijdstip in première. Vanavond kun je hem om 23.05 op televisie zien, op Nederland 2.



The Age of Stupid is een documentaire van regisseur Franny Armstrong en wordt beschouwd als een gedramatiseerde variant van Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, De hoofdrolspeler (acteur Pete Postlethwaite) vraagt zich af hoe we zo stom konden zijn, dat we niets hebben gedaan om de opwarming van de aarde te voorkomen.

Na de wereldwijde vertoning volgde er een paneldiscussie waaraan onder meer Kofi Annan (voormalig VN-chef), de hoofdrolspeler, de regisseur en diverse wetenschappers deelnamen.

De internationale pers zag de film in maart al. Dit is wat enkelen ervan vonden.
Guardian: 3 sterren; “Now, I’ve got to be quite honest and say that I found this concept a touch annoying and teenagery sometimes, and The Age of Stupid does not have the focus and weight of Al Gore’s outstanding An Inconvenient Truth.”

Times: 4 sterren; “The power of this shameless campaigning film is that it gives dates and deadlines. It explores options and ideas.”

The New York Times: “A thread of needling gallows humor runs through The Age of Stupid. Near the end of the film the Archivist wonders: “Why didn’t we save ourselves? Was the answer that we weren’t sure we were worth saving?” He may have a point.”
